4 Awesome Chicago Startups

1. BauBax

Have you ever heard of BauBax and their Travel Jacket? If not, you’re about to because their project is truly out of the ordinary. It started out as the brainchild of Hiral Sanghavi and Yoganshi Shah, both students at Northwestern at the time. They decided to create a one-of-a-kind travel jacket, and so they did.

The fantastic coat has a built-in neck pillow, a sleeping mask, pockets which warm up your hands, gloves, and all the pockets you could wish for to carry your stuff. In fact, the jacket is so cool, and it attracted so much attention that BauBax became the clothing project with the most funds ever. They raised almost four million dollars on Kickstarter.

2. CakeStyle

As far as Chicago startups go, this one is every woman’s dream. You simply give them a budget, a preferred dress code, and which designers you like most. And just like that CakeStyle goes out and does all your shopping for you. You get to save a whole lot of time, and you can even buy their services as a gift for your friends.

3. Flowers for Dreams

Not only are these guys out to sell some truly kick-ass flowers, but they also want to make a difference. The reason is that, for every bouquet you purchase from them, they donate a backpack full of school supplies to one student in need. How’s that for giving back to the community?

As opposed to other florist Chicago startups, all the flowers from Flowers for Dreams are organic, and they grow in a sustainable fashion. They can deliver in and around Boston and Chicago. The guys opened up their business back in 2012 and, in the first six months they had already donated 1, 750 backpacks.

4. SpotHero

If you’ve ever had any problems with not finding a parking spot when you need one, then it’s Chicago startups to the rescue once more. And not just any startup, but SpotHero. The app supports people in finding and reserving parking spots all over Chicago. How cool is that? All you have to do is flash your phone at a garage and then go park. If this is not revolutionary, then we don’t know what is.

Chicago startups are quickly becoming an example to follow for the entire country. Why shouldn’t they? Their technology scene is growing faster than ever, their restaurant map is every gourmet’s dream, and their startups are truly exciting.
