Now, think about how you’re going to attain your goal. If it seems impossible, it might be more than you can take on. However, if you can break it into several smaller goals and tackle them one at a time, your final goal is definitely attainable.
It is also important to be realistic when it comes to goal setting. That is because you might be setting yourself up for failure if you dream big but you are not grounded enough.
Finally, it is important to have a fixed deadline. Don’t simply think you will accomplish your goal sometime in the future. Deadlines are often one of the biggest inspirations, so make your goal timely.
How to Use the SMART Goals Template for Business
We thought the best way to show you the SMART goals template in action is to provide a concrete goal and take it through the 5 steps to see how it should look like. So let’s say your goal is to learn Photoshop because it would be useful for your business. You will notice that we were very specific about the goal, since it would have been a mistake to formulate it like “I want to gain more computer skills”. What is wrong with this latter goal? It’s too vague and it can reference too many things.
Moving on, someone who wants to learn Photoshop would have to think about ways to do that. Maybe you can take an online course or watch some YouTube tutorials. Is your goal measurable? In order for it to be, you have to formulate a clear plan. Let’s say in one month you will be able to familiarize yourself with the basics of Photoshop.
The goal also has to be attainable, and our example definitely fits that category. All you have to do is divide it into smaller goals. Otherwise, learning Photoshop is a realistic goal. Just remember that it also has to be timely, so let’s say you are going to achieve it in exactly 4 months.
