If you do not have an active presence online, or worse, if you have a negative image put out there for the world to see, you will definitely have trouble getting your business to grow and develop. Why, you ask? Well, because almost everybody nowadays lives in the online world, and they expect you to do the same. People are often influenced by what they read online, even to the point in which they decide not to contact a company because of the lack or quality of information that they find about it. So if you want to prevent that, here are 4 tips for online reputation management to keep in mind.
Tips for Online Reputation Management
1. Be Active on All Web Platforms
That means having a website with the company’s name, a blog, a Facebook account, a Twitter account, and a Google+ one as well. Furthermore, depending whether you are willing to go that extra mile or not, you can create a LinkedIn account, a YouTube channel, an Instagram account, or a Pinterest account. Be active on as many web platforms as possible. That way, you can have a certain amount of control over what people see when they google your company’s name.
2. Address Complaints
No matter how successful you are, there will always be people who are not satisfied with a certain aspect of your business. If they take to some online platform to address this issue, don’t make the mistake of ignoring them. If you do that, other people will see that you had nothing to say and assume that you don’t care about your customers that much. Try to address every issue as politely as you can and with as much patience as you have. We know it can be hard sometimes to keep your cool, but politely trying to come up with a solution to the problems that are addressed to you is the best way to make sure you have a great reputation online.
3. Don’t Be Afraid to Admit When You Are Wrong
It can happen that you are at fault for something. In this case, ignoring the issue and hoping no one will notice is definitely not the way to go. Customers will appreciate you more if you genuinely admit that you were wrong and apologize for any inconvenience that you might have caused them. Also, be original with your apology and don’t simply use typical phrases that everybody uses. Show your clients you care by putting some real effort into it. You can even try to make it up to them in some way.
4. Don’t Start Fighting with Internet Trolls
As long as we have the internet, we will also have internet trolls. The best way to deal with them is to politely respond to whatever they are saying about you, and even provide them with some witty responses. However, never ever get into an argument with a troll on the internet. There is no possible way in which this can end well for you. You will only show people that you have nothing better to do that fight with haters online. If someone keeps spamming you with mean and injurious comments, simply delete them and block that account.
Building a strong online reputation should be one of your main concerns once you open up your own business. We hope these online reputation management tips will inspire you as much as they’ve inspired us.
