LinkedIn is the professional network that took by surprise the entire business world. It had an unexpected success, but now many people are asking themselves if it’s worth it. Today we are going to have a look at pros and cons of having a LinkedIn account. So, is LinkedIn worth it after all?

Is LinkedIn Worth It? Pros and Cons

1. Finding Useful Information

LinkedIn is filled with opportunities to learn more about your field. There are even specialized groups where you can learn about certain topics or meet professionals in that domain. Moreover, if you follow important LinkedIn influencers, you get the chance to keep up to date with the latest developments.

2. Networking

This was the main goal of this social network and it’s probably what convinces people to sign up and stay. It’s a great place to find managers, recruiters or people on other important positions in a company you want to enter. In fact, many recruiters check LinkedIn often so your chances of getting a job will increase. Moreover, you can use it to make personal connections with people you already know.

3. Become More Professional

Considering all the information, the connections and the opportunities, you could say that LinkedIn makes you more professional. You learn how to approach people, how to deal with the latest developments in your field, you see LinkedIn summary examples that can inspire you, etc. For a person who is looking for a job, this is the best social network.

1. Lots of Spam

Just like with any other social network, the huge amount of spam makes people ask whether LinkedIn is worth it for them or not. If you check people’s profiles, you will notice there are lots of posts that aren’t relevant to a business topic. People have the freedom to post whatever they want, which can make you waste your time sometimes.

2. Every Social Network Is a Job Board

It’s true, LinkedIn is specialized only on jobs and finding relevant people in a certain domain. However, you can do this with other social networks as well. Take Facebook, for example. There are plenty of groups dedicated to jobs there too. Moreover, you can find anybody there since almost everybody has a Facebook account nowadays.

3. It Doesn’t Guarantee Anything

You might say that you get no guarantee whatsoever in other places as well, and it’s true. However, for a network that promises to find you a job soon enough, it can be rather disappointing. Some recruiters say that they don’t even care about this network, which might cut you off from some possible jobs. However, you can still try it if you have lots of free time while looking for a job.

So, is LinkedIn worth it? The answer to this depends on your goals and needs. If you’re a job seeker with plenty of free time, it would be a shame not to give it a chance. However, it can be quite a waste of time if you find other faster ways to land yourself a good position.
