Whenever we have to prepare for a trip, especially an international one, the pressure of the many things we have to get done before finally departing can oftentimes take the fun out of the adventure. Traveling to a foreign country is one of the best experiences a person can have, but it can be one of the most stressful ones as well. Because we want to take away the stress and leave you only with the positive vibes of traveling abroad, we devised an international travel checklist that contains everything you’re going to need while planning your trip.
International Travel Checklist
1. Research Your Destination
The most important thing you should do before traveling abroad is to research your destination. This won’t only allow you to find out more about the culture there and the best places that you can visit, but it will also help you find out if there’s anything you should stay away from. For instance, certain countries can be dangerous, if not for everybody, at least for some minorities. Take the time to learn the basics about your destination and make sure you’re knowledgeable before traveling there.
2. Gather All the Required Documents
The next items on your international travel packing checklist should be your traveling documents. If you’ve already researched the destination, then you know what documents you’ll be needing there. Gather them all in one place and make sure you store them safely. You don’t want to run the risk of forgetting them. Required documents might include passport, visa, or custody documents in case you’re traveling with minors.
3. Don’t Forget About Health Insurance
One of the most important things to do before traveling abroad is get a health insurance. In order to do that, you have to first check if your current healthcare plan includes it. If it does, then you’re all set. If it doesn’t, you’re going to have to buy supplemental insurance. Whatever you do, never leave the country without a health insurance.
4. Establish Your Finances
Before traveling abroad, think about how much money you’re going to need. Consider how long your stay is going to be, what is the purpose of the visit, and what you plan on purchasing there. Then, think whether you have to exchange your money, or the currency you have now is enough. You should also have a credit card with you, in case anything unforeseen happens. However, we advise you not to include all of your credit cards on the list of things needed for international travel.
5. Think of Essential Items You Need to Bring with You
Apart from clothes, shoes, and other necessities, also devise a list of things to carry while traveling abroad which are unrelated to one another. For instance, maybe you need to take your medication, or you should carry around a card which lists your allergies. Other essential items can include a pocket dictionary, some business cards, a first aid kit, adapters for your devices, a flashlight, personal photographs, and so on.
We hope our international travel checklist will help you get organized the next time you want to travel to a foreign country. For more travel packing tips and tricks, take a look at the video below.
