Whether you’re renting or you have an apartment of your own that could use some extra closet space, there are always tips and tricks you can use in order to get more storage space and organize your home better. Since we understand the importance of having a more breathable home, we thought we’d lend a helping hand. In today’s guide, we’re going to teach you how to maximize closet space and declutter your home.

How to Maximize Closet Space: 4 Tips and Tricks

1. Use the Floor Space

Oftentimes, a lot of the floor space goes to waste, especially when your closet is full of long-hanging clothes. We suggest organizing your hangers and keeping all the long clothes on one side. If you really don’t have room to place anything under them, that’s fine. At least you can use the rest of the floor space in the closet, the one above which you’re going to hang shorter clothes. Depending on the size of the clothes and that of the closet, you might be able to fit shoe racks there, or even a small dresser. Remember that every space counts, no matter how tiny.

2. Use the Doors

The doors are another part of your closet that you’re probably not using at its maximum capacity. You’d be surprised how many things can fit on a door if you know how to use it. There are three main clothing and footwear categories that can fit perfectly on a door. First of all, you can install a shoe rack and place all of your favorite pairs of shoes there. Second, you can hang some hooks and use them to store scarves, belts, handbags, or even your pajamas. Finally, you can also turn the back of your door into a jewelry station.

3. Use the Upper Shelf

You’re probably thinking your upper shelf is maxed out. It could be, but that doesn’t mean you’ve made the most of that space. Instead of simply filling it with storage bins, use a shelf divider. This will help you divide your shelf into smaller shelves where you can easily arrange your clothes and accessories. This type of shelf keeps everything in its place, so you won’t have to worry about your towels falling on top of your clothes and creating a mess. Another use of a shelf divider is to store your purses in an upright position.

4. Clean Up Regularly

Let’s face it, a large part of your closet space is unecessarily taken up by clutter and things you no longer need. Which is why cleaning the closet space regularly can help you create more space for new things. During the cleaning process, you have to focus on two things: items you can throw away and items you can donate or pass along to your friends and family. In terms of things you can throw away, consider old hangers, dry cleaning plastic coverings, or empty boxes. Then, consider donating clothes you no longer wear.

We hope these 4 tips and tricks on how to maximize closet space are enough to help you organize your home better.
