As much as some of us would like to see gender equality in all areas of society, the truth is that gender inequality in the workspace is still something that a lot of women have to deal with. From women working in the business field, to women occupying manual labor positions, and actresses starring in Hollywood movies, every industry comes with a certain amount of gender inequality that should be addressed. In order to familiarize you with the topic a bit more, we thought we would share the views of 3 leading feminists on the issue of gender inequality in the workspace.

1. Sheryl Sandberg
Sheryl Sandberg is an activist and author who is currently the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook. Precisely because she has struggled in her career, she created the Lean In Foundation. This is a nonprofit organization that supports women in achieving their goals.
Sandberg believes that more companies should consider the issue of gender inequality and keep track of how many men they hire or promote as opposed to women. Consequently, a step forward would be to set targets and work towards achieving the desired numbers. However, working on the numbers is not enough. Sandberg underlines the importance of making a case for gender equality. People have to be able to talk about why gender diversity is beneficial for the people working in their companies and the organization as a whole.
2. Iris Bohnet
For those of you who are not familiar with her name, Iris Bohnet teaches at Harvard University. She is also the author of “What Works”, a book about gender inequality. There, she talks about the solutions we have to consider if we want to fight against this issue.
She believes that in order to promote gender equality at the workplace, companies have to pay attention to the way they phrase their job advertisements. More often than not, we find gendered language that stereotypically targets a certain gender. Furthermore, employers should stop comparing candidates to a certain stereotype that they think is the best option for the job. If they were to focus more on real alternatives, the performance would be the thing that matters most, not the gender of the individual.
3. Emma Watson
Perhaps one of the most famous feminists of recent times, Emma Watson definitely doesn’t need any introduction. The actress known for her part in the Harry Potter franchise is constantly fighting for gender equality. More recently, she is doing that as an UN Women Goodwill Ambassador.
In one of her speeches, she urges all people, regardless of gender, to take action as soon as possible. If the world wants women to be paid as much as men and to enjoy the same rights at the workplace, then everybody should be called a feminist. There is no reason why we have to wait for 100 more years to pass until we change something.
