There’s a distinction to be made about famous entrepreneurs; some are famous because their businesses have succeeded beyond all imagination. Bill Gates, of Microsoft, is a great example of this kind of famous entrepreneur. You know him because of Microsoft. Others are famous for occupations outside the business world. Ashton Kutcher is known mostly for his acting. But, did you know, his company, A-Grade Investments, has invested in multiple tech companies including Spotify, Airbnb, Foursquare, Fab, Uber, Dwolla and Path.
Here are three other famous entrepreneurs known for accomplishments other than building businesses.
The Most Famous Entrepreneurs to Draw Inspiration From
1. Oprah Winfrey
The reason why Oprah made it to the list of famous entrepreneurs is that she is the most influential woman in the world. And that is saying something. Apart from that, if you want a story that will simply get you off the couch and compel you to become the best you can be, Oprah’s story is the best.
If you think her success and her estimated $3 billion fortune are impressive, take a look at where she started. She was born as the daughter of a teenage housemaid. She was sexually abused by members of her family and was so poor that children made fun of her at school for wearing potato sacks as dresses.
Now she is the one and only Oprah Winfrey. Are you impressed and motivated? If not, check out this guy.
2. Walt Disney
The son of a farmer, Walt started his career by drawing horses on the side of his father’s barn. He wanted to work as a cartoonist for a newspaper, but nobody would hire him. Therefore, he started making ads for magazines and newspapers in an art studio.
The very first character he created was not Mickey, as many wrongfully believe. It was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The rabbit, however, was the property of Universal, seeing as Walt himself was working for them at the time.
Universal cut his paycheck, so he quit his job and started thinking about a replacement for Oswald. And Mickey soon came into existence.
When it comes to famous entrepreneurs, nobody did it like Walt Disney. He went from not being able to get a job to creating one of the biggest empires in the world. How’s that for inspiration?
3. J.K. Rowling
All of us know the talented lady as the mother of Harry Potter and his wizarding world. Still, she wasn’t always that. In fact, before her Potter years, Rowling was a teacher, and she also struggled to be a single mom living on welfare.
Harry came to her one day when she was on a train. The rest is history. She is now one of the most famous and influential people in the world, with an estimated fortune of over $1 billion.
Apart from the fame and money, the Potter series is the bestselling book series in history. Not in a particular year or another, but in history. She also has one book which is the fourth bestselling single-volume book in history, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
If these three famous entrepreneurs don’t inspire you, there are plenty others to draw inspiration from. Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga, just to name a few, also own or invest in a multitude of businesses.
