Do you consider yourself to be a critical thinker? In order to be one, you have to be able to analyze situations objectively and evaluate them until you reach a certain conclusion. Great critical thinkers use all the tools at their disposal (facts, research, data) to find solutions to problems and make appropriate decisions. Because we want to help you become a better critical thinker, we thought we would provide you with 5 examples of critical thinking that might be useful to you.

5 Examples of Critical Thinking to Keep in Mind

1. Settling a Dispute

A good example of critical thinking is when you’re a team manager or a business owner and you have to settle a dispute between two of your employees. In this scenario, you have to consider both sides of the disagreement. Moreover, you have to be careful to treat all of the employees fairly, without favoring someone’s point of view. Finally, in order to actually settle the dispute, you’re going to have to come up with different alternatives. Then, see which one fits the situation best and manages to satisfy both employees.

2. Anticipating Business Opportunities

Another situation in which people should use critical thinking is whenever they plan to open a business. Before actually starting to work on it, they have to consider what techniques they’re going to use in order to increase sales and develop their brand. Even more so, it’s important to think about the consequences of these techniques. It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about human consequences or economic ones.

3. Explaining Your Point of View

Let’s say you have to deliver a business presentation that should persuade your colleagues that your idea is worth exploring. In this case, you’re going to have to use critical thinking in order to explain to them what was the methodology you used for your research, why you decided to use that particular one, and how it actually connects to the issue at hand.

4. Applying for a Job

Critical thinking can even be useful to you when you decide to apply for a job. That’s because during a job interview, your main goal is that of persuading the employer that you’re the right person for the job, by explaining how your set of skills could benefit the company. If you know how to use your experience for your benefit, you’re more likely to get the job of your dreams. This is why learning how to think critically is something everyone should strive to do.

5. Planning for the Future

Critical thinking doesn’t only help your career, it can also help your personal life. You can use it whenever you have to plan for the future and decide the steps you have to take in order to secure a prosperous life. Just to give you an example of what we mean, let’s consider sending your children to a good school. You have to anticipate the costs, plan the income, and budget your expenses. Then, you have to see how everything fits together in order for your children to get the best possible education.

We hope these 5 examples of critical thinking have showed you that developing this skill is extremely important, no matter what you want to do in life.
