The following are some crucial questions you must ask yourself if you want to hold on to your competitive edge. Who is your competition? What is their unique selling point, otherwise known as USP? What are they offering different from you? Is there a reason why some customers prefer them to you?

2. Customer Service Must Be Perfect

The key to a happy customer base is outstanding customer services. Your products or services might be good, but if your way of dealing with people leaves room for improvement, then you’re on the losing end of the bargain.

You wouldn’t believe just how many individuals state that, as customers, no matter how much they like a particular item, they would never go back to buy it if the sales person treated them poorly. Therefore, you must always smile, be polite and be extremely patient. Resolve their problems as soon as they come knocking and build a relationship with them.

Make your customers feel they are dealing with a real person, not a robot and you’ve won their hearts for life.

3. Always Look to Improve Your Offer

Your basic products or services are marvelous. But would your customers be interested in something related to them? This way of thinking is as simple as can be. For example, let’s say you have a coffee shop. Don’t limit yourself to Lattes and Espressos. Add some hot chocolate, macchiatos, cappucinnos and so on.

You can even go beyond this idea. People seldom choose to drink coffee without a little something to nibble on the side. Why not introduce some coffee cake, scones or biscotti?

Remember – the larger your product base, the more customers you will have. It simply means that you will be selling a little something for everyone.

4. Update Your Image

If you want to keep your competitive edge, you must work on updating your image. Stay tuned into the trends because this is what people want. Let’s build on the example above with you being the owner of a coffee shop. It’s no use if you keep on selling your espresso shots when all people want is a pumpkin spiced latte.

Update your products and updating your image will follow suit without much effort on your side.
